The school badge has its origins in the beehive crest of the old Bedwellty Urban District Council.

The three hexagons are derived from the cells of the honeycomb.

  • The bee signifies industry.
  • The lower left symbol is the Yin-Yang of ancient Chinese philosophy and represents the interplay of contrasting yet complementary forces, physical and spiritual, which sustain the universe.
  • The lower right symbol is a hieroglyph standing for tree and is a reference to the place name, Blackwood.
