7th September 2018
Dear Parent/Carer,
It gives me great pleasure to write to you as the new Headteacher of Blackwood Comprehensive School. As a former pupil with family still living in the local area, I know the important role that the school plays in providing a caring, inclusive environment which provides pupils with the opportunity to achieve their potential and develop the skills, talents and qualifications they need to make a difference to this close knit community. I feel extremely proud to be taking a lead in shaping the future of Blackwood’s pupils, ensuring high standards of achievement and wellbeing, and instilling in them a love of lifelong learning.
I believe passionately in the power of education to change lives, and have the highest expectations for all of our pupils regardless of their background or ability. I am committed to ensuring they develop as young people who are ambitious, successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens and will strive to ensure that our school supports them to develop these qualities through our whole school ethos of Ready, Respectful and Safe.
I believe that strong relationships between the school and parents and carers are vital to achieve success and I look forward to working with you and your child during their time with us.
Finally, I would like to take the opportunity to inform you that from Monday 10th September 2018, all pupils in Years 7 to 11 will be expected to remain on school site at lunchtime. We have just completed work on our new canteen where pupils can purchase a variety of appetizing, nutritious meals or bring a packed lunch if they choose. It is important all pupils are on site as we provide a safe environment for them to enjoy their lunchtime and take advantage of the clubs on offer.
Thank you in anticipation of your support in this.
Yours sincerely
Mrs J M Wilkie
Headteacher/Pennaeth
